Claudia A. Reis has developed strategic, smart, and successful approaches to getting the best outcomes possible for her clients by devoting her legal career to the practice of employment law, making sure that she truly understands each issue from both sides, and taking the time needed with each client to understand their individual needs, difficulties, and situation.

Although she has focused her career on helping employees in connection with unlawful workplace conduct, Claudia previously defended and counseled large and small corporate clients as well as governmental agencies on various employment issues while working at a large national employment defense firm. Through that experience, she gained a real understanding of employers’ arguments, positions and tactics, which allowed her to develop out-of-the box thinking, solutions, and strategies to best position her clients for success.

Throughout her career, Claudia has developed a personalized approach to the practice of law. This approach means that she spends enough time with each client to understand his/her work environment, job duties, situation, needs, desires, drives, strengths, weaknesses, and damages. Accordingly, Claudia’s professional relationships foster interaction and trust that enable open, frank, and honest discussions as well as the creation of tactical solutions that serve her clients’ needs in the most efficient, economic, personal, and direct manner.

In her practice, Claudia has litigated and been involved in countless cases, some of which involved landmark decisions. She and her colleague Christopher Lenzo won a $1.549 million jury verdict in a hard-fought retaliation case against New Jersey Transit after a month-long trial during 2009.

Claudia is recognized by both her clients and her peers for excellence. Since 2016, she has been named among the Top 50 New Jersey Women Super Lawyers receiving the most votes from other members of the bar. In 2016 and 2017, she was also included in the Top 100 New Jersey Super Lawyers. The Thomson Reuters list of New Jersey Super Lawyers has included Claudia in its list in the areas of labor and employment law and plaintiffs' employment litigation since 2006 when she was among the only 2.5% of attorneys in the State named to the Risings Stars list. In 2014, after being included in the Rising Stars list every year from 2006 through 2013, Claudia was included in the list of New Jersey Super Lawyers.*

In 2018, Best Lawyers in America designated Claudia as Lawyer of the Year in the field of Employment Law-Individuals for the Newark Metropolitan Area based on votes cast by her peers in the labor and employment law bar. She has also been included in the list of Best Lawyers in America in the practice area of labor and employment law since 2017.*

Claudia frequently lectures on and writes articles about employment law for various organizations and groups such as the New Jersey State Bar Association, the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education, the National Employment Lawyers Association/New Jersey, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America – New Jersey, the New Jersey Labor and Employment Law Quarterly, and county bar organizations as well as employment defense groups.

Claudia is a member of the Executive Section of the Labor & Employment Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association, the past-President of the National Employment Lawyers Association/New Jersey (NELA-NJ) after being elected to two consecutive terms as well as the former Secretary, Acting Treasurer, and Board Member of NELA-NJ. She is also a member of the New Jersey Association for Justice (NJAJ), a Barrister with the Sideny Reitman Employment Law American Inn of Court, and a member of the American Bar Association.

Claudia’s practice embraces all aspects of employment law, including sexual harassment, discrimination (relating to pregnancy, disability, age, sex, race, sexual orientation, national origin, familial status, domestic partnership status, religion, impermissible gender stereotyping, sex gender identity or expression, liability for services in the Armed Forces), retaliation, and claims relating to both state and federal leave acts and wage and hour laws.

In addition, she provides clients with advice on various employment law matters such as how to deal with leave and/or pay issues, negotiating through HR issues, and employees’ expectation of privacy in the workplace. She also routinely reviews, revises, drafts, and provides advice regarding severance agreements, agreements to arbitrate, settlement agreements and releases, and personnel handbooks. Throughout the years, Claudia has also successfully tried cases, represented clients in various administrative forums, worked on numerous appeals, and represented clients in mediations and negotiations that were court-ordered, private, and/or required by administrative agencies.

Claudia is a 2001 graduate of Rutgers School of Law – Newark, and a 1995 graduate of Rutgers College. While at Rutgers School of Law, she was a teaching assistant for the legal research and writing program as well as a Notes and Comments Editor for the Computer & Technology Law Journal. In 2005, she also co-taught a Negotiations class at Seton Hall University with the esteemed Lee E. Miller.
